Carine Roitfeld stages a high-fashion funeral as part of her latest project. Since leaving French Vogue (and becoming a grandmammy), CR has been working on a hotly anticipated glossy, CR Fashion Book. The publication is due out on September 13, but currently lives on Tumblr. The first reveal (in the form of a trippy animated GIF) comes from a graveyard editorial, featuring Juliet Ingleby in a lavender veil, red heels and, in true CR style, nothing else.
Didn’t think fashion and flatulence went together? MWLLTJF features a host of models - everyone from Elle Fanning, Lindsey Wixson and Candice Swanepoel - with the look of relief/embarrassment/self-satisfaction/anxiety/discomfort that comes immediately after cutting the cheese. Coco Rocha even made a personal submission. You’ll never look at Vogue the same way again …
The fact that the ‘90s has become officially “vintage” has got has a little worried, but doesn’t detract from the fact that it was a pretty awesome decade for fashion. There were big thinkers such as McQueen and Chalayan making their theatrical runway debuts, the rise of the supermodel, and the popularisation of minimalism and anti-fashion. This tumblr is dedicated to some of the most dynamic, often unwearable, looks of the decade, still inspiring twenty years on.
As Gob Bluth would attest, there’s nothing quite like a good quality suit. The perfect colour, pattern and fit can work wonders for any man, and this Tumblr is dedicated to some of the best. David Beckham, Pharrell Williams and Joseph Gordon-Levitt opt for classic navy and grey styles, adding individuality with pocket squares and knitted skinny ties. Paul Ryan, take note.
Adore fashion and Pokemon in equal measure? This Tumblr combines the two, catching all the original Pokemon characters and tossing them into bizarre fashion editorials. Jigglypuff photobombing a Jil Sander campaign and Charmander chillin’ with Natasha Poly will bring waves of nostalgia to anyone born in the Tamagotchi-era.
The New York label has just unveiled its official Tumblr, packed with inspiring visuals - from sultry campaigns starring Lara Stone to archive shots of Marky Mark in his tighty-whities and Jennifer Herrema doing grunge. All content is meticulously curated by model-turned-blogger Hanneli Mustaparta, and you can even check out a bunch of her personal stuff at #Hanneli.
Add grip tape to your wish list, skateboards are having moment. In the same vein as the ah-mazing Skate Bush, the site began when its creator Jeff Gaudinet mispronounced Miss Moss’ name. Like Angelina’s right leg, it has since taken on a life of its own, with contributors lifting her mug off Supreme T-shirts, Juergen Teller spreads and racy Agent Provocateur ads to fashion some of the coolest decks we’ve ever seen.
Legendary photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin have jumped onto the Tumblr wagon, filling theirs with gorgeous personal portraits, including their son Charles Star dressed up as Bob Dylan and soaking in a bubble bath. There are also raw candids of Anja, Freha and Raquel, taken behind the scenes at their glossy shoots, and bucketloads of virtual kisses courtesy of Inez.
Though blogs showcasing the homes of fashion’s elite - what with their designer candles, designer shower curtains, and designer gifts from designer friends – can be tiring, The Coveteur pulls it off, managing to snag some truly influential talent. Get a peek inside the closets of Patricia Field, Taylor Tomassi Hill and Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, among others, with behind-the-scenes shots posted straight to their Tumblr. Everything is as fabulous as you’d expect.
Dig through the comments and you’ll find some stunning images on this Tumblr, created by three dapper gentlemen living in Soweto, South Africa. Justice Mukheli, Innocent Mukheli and Vuyo Mpantsha combine their love of photography, fashion (bow ties and braces in particular) and their hometown, capturing the city’s modern landscape while showing off their threads.
