BENDIGO'S St John of God Hospital has been given the all-clear after bacteria which causes the potentially deadly legionnaires' disease was detected in its water supply earlier this month.
A spokesperson for the hospital said recent testing by both St John of God and the Department of Health and Human Services showed the bacteria had been eradicated following a full chemical and thermal disinfection of the water supply.
Legionnaires' disease is a serious and sometimes fatal form of pneumonia. Most cases are caused by the Legionella bacteria.
