Di Toro was unbeaten in the women's class 3-5 at her first international table tennis tournament.
On the tennis court, Di Toro was a French Open doubles champion in 2010, and a dual finalist in doubles at Wimbledon.
Many of the players in action at Bendigo are vying for a place on the Rio Paralympic team.
There were many superb rallies played across the opening day of the three-day tournament.
For the first time the ITTF Oceania Cup and Para table tennis titles are being played at the same venue and at the same time.
"We have had a fantastic response from players," said Michael Brown, ITTF and Africa-Oceania development co-ordinator.
"The integration of the para titles is crucial to helping the sport grow," Brown said.
There are 58 players across the Oceania Cup and para championships.
The para classes are 1-5 wheelchair, 6-10 standing, 11 intellectual disability.
Group matches for the Oceania Cup hit off on Friday.
Play on Saturday and Sunday starts at 10am. First of Sunday's finals will be at 2pm. Entry for spectators on Sunday is $10 at the door.
