Swift action by Russell Bath and Paul Bourke to use a garden hose to put out burning rubbish saved nearby properties in North Bendigo from more serious damage.
Both were just as quick to praise others who turned up to help.
"We only did what anyone else would do," said Paul.
The previous night and volunteer firefighter Samual Harrison, pictured, was on hand to douse the flames from a burning caravan at Buninyong.
Although he was off-duty, Samual did not hesitate to help.
His training was to the fore as he used two extinguishers to fight the blaze before other CFA units arrived.

At Eildon the four-day search for 11-year-old Luke Shambrook ended in the best way.
After four nights lost in bushland, Luke was found alive, much to the amazement of his rescuers and his family.
The persistence of Victoria Police and the many volunteers in the search for Luke was incredible.
