About 3400 children and adults waded through an arena of hay on Fry-day, in search for chocolate eggs. 

While some hunters charged for the middle of the arena, others took a more egg-ucated approach - choosing to stick to the edges of the hay pile where there were less people. 

Vision Australia Loddon Mallee manager Ruth O'Connell said the event, in its 12th year, and had once again been a cracking success. 

"We put out 85,000 eggs and there was about 3400 people who participated," she said. 

Ms O'Connell said the hunt was the organisation's biggest annual fundraiser and the money raised would go towards supporting the running of programs for children with vision impairments. 

"This particular event goes towards the children. Sometimes we get clients as babies and it is just to help the parents work with having a blind child," he said. 

"Because the child's not going to see we need to teach them to orientate themselves around a room and listen to voices.

"We help them learn to walk before they move onto school. 

"We teach them to learn braille so they can go to a school that everyone else attends."

Meanwhile, Vision Australia is calling for interest from people who might like to look after a seeing eye dog. 

Vision Australia general manager Leigh Garwood said the organisation paid all expenses, including training and food.  

"We are looking for people who can give the puppies a good home and help them socialise," Mr Garwood said.
