The Roos were crowned A-grade champions last year, but for Lia Marrone's Golden Square team, a lot has changed since that day in September.
Both teams have put the hard yards in over summer and have recruited well, with Bendigo Spirit star Gabe Richards set to play her first official game with Square on Good Friday.
Marrone said Richards, new recruit Steph Freemantle and the return of Kath Basilewsky may mean Golden Square could surprise their rivals.
“The additions to our side since our last match up might be just what we need to shake it up,” she said.
“I am hoping for a closer game than last year’s final.
“At this stage we don’t know what the Flat line up will look like or how we will match up, but we know we will need to be on our game from the get-go.”
Kangaroo Flat coach Jannelle Hobbs said she was confident her team would be able to kick-off its season with a win.
“In the four years that I have been involved with Kangaroo Flat I have never seen the girls so fit,” she said.
“We aren’t resting on our laurels from last season.
"It will be nice to get a win on the board first up."
Roos mid-court star Lauren Cowling is set to make her return from a knee reconstruction.
The grand final re-match will be played at My Jet Oval at 3.20pm.
Strathfieldsaye coach Maleta Roberts is also optimistic a strong pre-season will give her team an edge in 2015.
The Storm takes on the Dragons in its first game.
"Sandhurst will be tough," Roberts said.
"They are a great team and I’m sure are just as ready to play as we are.
"We need to have a good start to the game and take each quarter as it comes."
The match will be played at Queen Elizabeth Oval at 5.30pm.
Gisborne will take on rivals Kyneton at Gardiner Reserve.
The Tigers will be under the guidance of new coach Karlie Plowman, who was a part of Kyneton's historic B-grade premiership side last season.
"I have never coached at this level before, but I know the girls really well and I am excited about the season," she said.
In other matches, Eaglehawk will play against South Bendigo at Canterbury Park and Maryborough will host Castlemaine at Princes Park.
