Through the entire process Mr Gray has relied on the donations of the community to build the house.
He is now searching for groups of carpenters to join the army of trades people volunteering their time to the construction of the building.
Paul Gray said the house was at the slab stage with the frame expected to go up in the next week.
He said more carpenters were needed to add to the already existing team.
"I want to bring them out of the woodwork," he said.
"I need a half a dozen or more carpenters to add to the Paul Gray Builders team.
"The house is in three pods so we can have three different crews."
Mr Gray and the Otis Foundation are calling on the help of the Bendigo community to turn their dream into reality by donating money, goods or services.
Otis Foundation's Carlie Ryan said it was important the community supported the cause by visiting kezshideaway.org.au and purchasing products for the home.
"We are currently asking people to fill out the bathroom and the laundry," she said.
Mr Gray said Kerri lost her four-year battle with breast cancer in 2011.
“To have lived and fought this disease with Kerri, our family knows how much a small getaway can help to forget the day-to-day stresses of this terrible disease,” Mr Gray said.
“So for us to be in a situation to be able to give that feeling to other families and friends with breast cancer is a small thing, after such a big loss.”
Otis chairman and founder Andrew Barling said the foundation had “thrived” on community generosity since it began.
