The Magpies announced on Thursday Tarrant would be among their 22 to take on Castlemaine at Barkers Oval Princes Park in the Good Friday season-opener.
“We’ve got confirmation that Chris will be playing in the first game against Castlemaine, which is fantastic news for the club,” Maryborough football manager Mick Reid said.
“At this stage it’s a one-off game, but you never know.”
Tarrant, 34, will add a crucial chunk of experience on Good Friday into what’s expected to be one of the youngest lists this year in Maryborough’s history.
“We’ve been looking for something to create a bit of vibrance and get more people interested in coming and watching the game,” Reid said.
"We've got a good young side and this is going to help those kids to play alongside a player of the calibre of Chris Tarrant."
Tarrant has strong links to the region, having been drafted from the Bendigo Pioneers in 1997.
Tarrant played 268 AFL games during his 15-year career - 196 for Collingwood and 72 for Fremantle.
"It's a great boost for us going into that first game of the season," Reid said.
"It's going to be on Good Friday, there's no district league games that day, so we'll be hoping for a really good crowd."
