She wowed the judges on the X Factor last year and made it to the top 24 before being eliminated.
Her experiences on the show have meant Bottomley is more focused on music than ever before.
"I am currently in the middle of working on an EP that I hope will be out in a month or so," Bottomley said.
"I've been taking part in intense writing workshops, written some original songs and been hanging out in the studio quite a lot."
Bottomley said the two months spent on X Factor cemented her determination to develop a career in music.
"Music is what I love and what makes me happy so hopefully something comes from it," she said.
"I haven't done a lot of gigs yet because I've been focusing on writing original songs. I'm sick of singing other people's songs. I think it's time I sung some of my own.
"Once the EP is done and I've got a few more original songs then I'll look at doing some gigs."
After the show Bottomley said she sat down and looked at what she had learned.
"I realised I had never been happier than when I was on that show.
"I thought I had to make a change in my own way."
