THE basketball courts of Bendigo have been a flurry of points, rebounds, steals, blocks and assists as hundreds of players from across the state pit their skills against each other at the 37th annual Bendigo Skin Ski & Surf Junior Classic.
The Bendigo Junior Classic tipped off on Saturday across seven venues and 16 courts around Bendigo, with the tournament attracting 229 teams from 29 associations.
The tournament will finish on Monday with finals day.
"It has been a fantastic weekend of basketball and we've had a lot of close matches in all the divisions," tournament director Nathan Williams said on Sunday.
"What is pleasing is that as well as the larger associations playing well, smaller associations like Castlemaine and Camperdown have been able to do really well in their divisions."
Among the 229 teams competing is 21 from Bendigo.
"It looks like we'll get a few of the Bendigo teams through to the finals," Williams said.
Age groups range from under-12 to 20 male and females, with multiple divisions in each.
The event was expected to attract 5000 people, providing another economical boost to the city on the back of the Australian Country Cricket Championships and Bendigo Bank Country Cricket Week that have already been held in January.
