SPONGEBOB SquarePants has thrown his hat into the ring in the Bendigo Advertiser Hay Bale Sculpture Competition.
The sculpture is the creation of 12-year-old Baelea Collins of Bridgewater North, her sister Ellyna, 13, and parents Linda and Gordon.
Baelea said she'd wanted to join the competition after seeing some of her neighbours getting involved and thought it would be a fun family activity.
"I was originally going to do a cow but I thought we should do something more challenging and mum thought of SpongeBob and I thought 'yeah that’s a great idea' so we did up a design and it worked really well," she said.
"It was my idea to do it but we all had our own parts and we did it all together."
Baelea said she was impressed by the other sculptures and would enter the competition again next year.
"We've thought of some ideas and we'll get into it a bit earlier next time and have a good go at it," she said.
Other entries include Serpentine couple Prue and Luke Milgate's solar powered hay bale Christmas tree sculpture on the Loddon Valley Highway; Jenni Hedstrom and family's Mr and Mrs Claus on their Chanters Lane property in Tylden; Nicole and Darryl Laity's Christmas themed hay bale aeroplane at their Romsey Road property in Darraweit Guim; the Hernon family's water skiing and BMXing Santa in Allies Road, Maiden Gully; Narelle and Rodney Broom's Christmas tree and Christmas teddy bears on the Calder Highway near Collins Road; James Coghlan and Michael Webb's castle with drawbridge on the corner of Auchmore Road and the Loddon Valley Highway; Maggie and Frank Coghlan's Very Hungry Caterpillar on the Bridgewater-Raywood Road north of Bridgewater and Adam Turnbull and Steph Dolman's sheep, just around the bend on the same road.
The winning entry will receive a trip to Bali courtesy of Grogan's Machinery and Bendigo Travel and Cruise Centre valued at $4500.
