BENDIGO completed a rags to riches story on Wednesday night, winning the Bendigo District Cricket Association Twenty20 title.
The Goers thumped Eaglehawk by eight wickets in the grand final, winning with 24 balls to spare at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Bendigo answered Eaglehawk’s 7-134 with 2-135 in front of a big crowd.
The Goers’ flag comes on the back of the club having won just two Twenty20 games the previous two seasons.
And it’s the club’s first piece of first XI silverware since its 1994 premiership.
Bendigo’s James Seymour capped an outstanding Twenty20 carnival, earning the man of the match.
Seymour clubbed 54 off 37 balls (seven fours, two sixes), to go with his previous scores of 58, 34, 37, 50, 32 and 80 during the tournament.
The experienced Marcus McKern was also superb with the bat for the Goers.
McKern finished unbeaten on 48 (six fours, one six), with he and Seymour putting on 86 for the first wicket.
Earlier, after Eaglehawk won the toss and batted, Cory Jacobs top-scored for the Hawks with 54. Jacobs belted nine boundaries in his 40-ball knock.
Veteran Mark Ryan (2-27) and Michael Winzar (2-23) took two wickets each for Bendigo.
