A female resident said she heard the sound of the car and the truck colliding from her home.
"I heard a bang and the dogs started barking," she said.
"I can't describe the sound but it is the same sound every time there is a crash."
The lady, who did not want to be identified, has lived in Lockwood for 23 years.
"Since they have installed the flashing lights and rumble strips there have been no crashes at night," she said.
"It comes down to driver error. It's the same if you are driving in Pall Mall. If you don't give way there will be an accident."
The lady was one of the first people on the scene and assisted other truck drivers who had stopped to help.
"It was chaotic. There was nothing left of the car," she said.
"Two other truck drivers had stopped, so I grabbed one of them and got a tarp and covered the body."
A male resident who has lived in Lockwood for 11 years said everyone should take caution while driving.
"I travel this road every day and you need eyes in the back of your head," he said.
"The big trucks come flying through here pretty fast and you must always stop and look. Things like this happen if you are not careful. You must be careful."
Senior Sergeant Mark Edwards said the Lockwood crossing was a clear intersection.
"If you look at the circumstances here, it is not really what you'd call a busy time of year,'' he said.
"One of the things (that could cause the crash) is inattention or driver error.
"It's not something you can contribute to the intersection."
Senior Sergeant Edwards said drivers should not become complacent just because the dangerous holiday period was winding down.
"We can't take our eyes off the ball. We have to remain vigilant and aware (on the roads)," he said.
"Driving is one of those things where everyone needs to be switched on to help avoid this sort of tragedy.
"This is traumatic for everyone. It's not a pretty scene."
It's not something you can contribute to the intersection.
