LAKE Eppalock will continue to be lowered despite residents and holidaymakers resistance.

Lake caretakers Goulburn-Murray Water forecast in October 2014, to empty Lake Eppalock to less than 43 per cent by June 2015. In less than six months the lake's volume is expected to be halved from 200,000 megalitres.

GMW say by Australia day the lake will rest at 53 per cent, 48 per cent by Labour Day and 43 per cent by Easter.

Shell Parker of the 7000-strong Save Lake Eppalock Facebook page said she was disappointed the lake was headed for such a low level.

She, along with hundreds of other holiday makers, is hoping the legislation can be changed to include Lake Eppalock as a recreational facility.

Mrs Parker said the lake has become unsafe because of the low water level.

"There are trees out there that are just sticking out of the water," she said.

"We have pulled our boat out of the water because it is too unsafe.

"I'm amazed no one has been killed out there."

A Goulburn-Murray water spokesman said the water from the lake was being delivered to the customers who own the water: irrigators, urban water corporations and Commonwealth and Victorian Environmental Water Holders.

"GMW does not own the water in Eppalock. It manages the water on behalf of the entitlements holders," he said.

"The amount of water delivered to customers this year is similar to previous year. 

"Unfortunately, when there is no inflow to offset what is being released, the reservoir level will fall.
