AT LEAST three vehicles suffered water damage on Nolan Street during yesterday's deluge while one even floated onto the footpath.
The owner of one of the vehicles, Lynton Price, said the water had reached almost as high as the car's dashboard.
"The car was just parked there while my wife was having afternoon tea at the restaurant and we just had a deluge of rain," he said.
"I'm guessing the drainage system there is blocked so I think the council needs to take some responsibility, it flooded and our car was right in the middle of it."
Mr Price said it took most of the rest of the day to free the vehicle.
Katie Newell said she was helped by a good Samaritan after her boyfriend's ute also suffered water damage in the same street.
"I had to get out the window and help push," she said.
Despite the damage Ms Newall said the car was still running.
"We preceded to pull the engine apart to dry it out and replace the filters and we got it going within half an hour," she said.
"It's running like a German tank, but it’s going."
Nolan Street business owner Mick Kimpton also blamed the flash flooding on drainage issues, flagging dry vegetation from the lake area as a likely cause.
"It all looks great around here but there's a price for it," he said.
Nearby cafe employee Hannah Mika said her colleague saw one of the cars float onto the footpath.
"Corina went outside to grab a plate and was just like 'look at that car'," she said.
Meanwhile, Holdsworth Road resident Tony Pangello said his driveway and yard had been flooded.
"The council just don't want anything to do with it and it's their problem. All they've got to do is put a bigger pipe in," he said.
"Someone's going to get hurt there one day, they've got to do something about it."
City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Peter Cox encouraged anyone affected by the floods to call the council.
"If they want to ring me direct I'm more than happy for them to do that," he said.
"We want to investigate and overcome any problems that were seeing in relation to our drainage."
