KANGAROO Flat’s Jekkyl and Hyde Bendigo Bowls Division pennant season continued on Saturday with a two-shot win over reigning premier Golden Square.
The Flat scraped home in a thriller, winning 98-96.
A fortnight ago Kangaroo Flat sat on the bottom of the ladder, but has since beaten Golden Square and Castlemaine (56 shots) to build some momentum in its season.
The rinks of Dean Carter and Brad Marron were both victorious for Kangaroo Flat.
Carter inflicted the first loss of the season on Golden Square’s Marc Smith with a 28-22 victory.
The loss was the second in a row by two shots for Golden Square after it also lost by the same margin to Bendigo East last week.
Having won its first three games of the season, Golden Square has since lost four of its past five.
• Eaglehawk ensured there would be no repeat of its round one upset loss to Castlemaine.
The ladder-leading Hawks were comfortable 98-75 victors at home.
Eaglehawk won three of the rinks, including that of skipper Tony Ellis, which maintained its unblemished record.
Rod Phillips was the sole winning skipper for Castlemaine in what was the side’s second loss in a row.
• Bendigo held off South Bendigo in a 14-shot victory, 90-76.
It was another competitive performance from bottom side South Bendigo, with both sides winning two rinks apiece.
However, it was Bendigo skipper Tim Arnold’s decisive 30-11 win over John Jennings that was the pivotal result.
• Inglewood fell just short of recording a rare win over Bendigo East.
Bendigo East survived the gallant challenge from Inglewood to win by six shots, 93-87.
The rink of East’s Paul Moller was the most dominant of the game as it made a timely return to form.
Having lost its previous four games, Moller defeated David Vanston by 21 shots, winning 34-13.
The six-shot victory was Bendigo East’s 11th in a row against Inglewood.
