A day communities reflect on the serious issue of violence against women.
It's terribly sad society has got to a place where such a day is needed to remind everyone that violence against women is not okay.
It should be a given.
Sadly, the statistics are such that White Ribbon Day continues to take on great importance on our annual calendar.
Tragically, those same statistics show that more than 50 women will not live to see next year's White Ribbon Day because they will become victim to partner violence.
That's right... on average one woman is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence.
Other facts listed on the official White Ribbon Day website are just as shameful.
Intimate partner violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and ill-health in Australian women aged 15-44.
The cost of violence against women to the Australian economy is estimated at $15.6 billion per year.
How did society ever get to this point?
More importantly, what are you going to do about it?
