RELATED: The John Grossman Project gets festive
BENDIGO’S Golden Vine Hotel will be rocking on Saturday night to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The popular music venue will host a ‘I NEED HELP for Leukaemia’ event, with live music from 4pm-midnight.
Owner Mark Elliott said eight acts would grace the main stage through the day, with all volunteering their time for free.
Another seven acoustic acts will entertain patrons in the beer garden.
Mr Elliott said the fundraiser was part of the pub’s U.G.L.Y Bartender initiative efforts.
“The U.G.L.Y bartender usually runs from November 1 to November 30, but this year they changed it October 16 to November 15,” he said.
“But because we had committed to our breast cancer fundraiser for the month of October, they (the Leukaemia Foundation) gave us special permission to run to the end of November as normal.
“The U.G.L.Y Bartender is a competition, but we don’t register for the prizes – we do it to raise funds for leukaemia.”
This is the fourth year the Golden Vine has run a leukaemia fundraiser.
Mr Elliott praised the musicians and sound engineers for giving of their time voluntarily.
The main stage line-up includes Stevenson’s Rocket, Bill Barber and the Blackwood Shakedown, Indian Takeaway, Magna Mouse, John Grossman Project and Midweek Blues Project.
Those performing in the beer garden include Bill Barber solo, Jayden Ingles, John Northfield, Brent Jane and Christopher King.
The show will underpin a busy month of fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation at the pub.
Participants at the hotels’ weekly trivia night on Wednesdays have given generously by way of a gold coin donation the past few weeks, while collection tins are also situated on the bar.
Last month’s breast cancer fundraiser raised more than $1200, to be split 75-25 per cent between the National Breast Cancer Foundation and (Jane) McGrath Foundation.
Entry is a gold coin donation.
