It was a hot topic throughout the Bendigo District Cricket Association this time a year ago, but you got the sense it wasn’t embraced by the local cricket community with so many unanswered questions surrounding it, particularly the financial implications of such a bold move and drain on the local competition.
But if a year on the tide had started to turn and there was a serious interest in the BDCA looking at the Premier Cricket path, the timeframes set by Cricket Victoria in seeking expressions of interest for 2015-16 make it near-impossible for Bendigo to give it any detailed consideration.
A media release dated Wednesday, November 19 announced expressions of interest are being sought to join the Premier Cricket competition next season.
But clubs or associations with an eye to joining have been given just 16 days in which to submit a formal expression of interest by December 5 detailing member support, local government support and “other supporting documentation.”
It’s fantastic Premier Cricket has opened up an opportunity to join next season, but to give such short notice to submit an expression of interest on such a major decision seems a short-pitched delivery that has already ended Bendigo’s innings before it can get started.
