Check out Peter Weaving's photos from the day, including the evening's secret laneway show on Ashmans Lane, which provided an intimate change of pace.
From most streets and alleys in Bendigo's CBD, the sounds of soft and heavy blues, roots, rock and jazz echoed from building to building throughout the weekend.
It was standing room only in a number of the 24 venues during the day and night for the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival.
At the Civic Gardens, festival goers sought the shade from the beating sun.
The balcony at the Shamrock Hotel provided ideal viewing for those nearby and afar, with the sounds making their way down Pall Mall.
Canada-based musician Marta Pacek performed at the Shamrock, and said it was her favourite gig of the whole weekend.
"At some bar gigs, people keep talking and you think, 'I might as well be elevator music'," she said.
"But here people were really engaged, they were making eye contact and enjoying the show. People also bought my CDs, which was great."
Pacek said festivals like the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival were leading the charge in a "folk music revival".
Others travelled from across the country to enjoy the festival. Heather Curnick, of Rochester, was entertaining family from Melbourne and Queensland for the weekend.
"We used this festival as a kind of family reunion now. My brother is a blues fanatic," she said.
