For more adventurous souls, this weekend’s famous Maldon Folk Festival will guarantee one of those… the other we can’t condone, but who knows what might happen when you throw the Uke Joint Jumpers into the mix of Aussie and international talent on the bill.
Led by local muso Peter Gavin, the Uke Joint Jumpers got together in July 2012 in a sly grog shop under an old speakeasy in Bendigo.
This eclectic group of “parents, offspring, Aussies, Scots, New Zealanders, singers, potential singers, lovers but mostly friends” play their unique ukulele barrelhouse blues, covering the songs of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Louis Jordan in a fun atmosphere.
“Good enough to get the crowd jumping like bed springs on a honeymoon,” they say. Phew. At least the love’s legit!
The band will be in impeccable company when they join the likes of Blue Eyes Cry (pictured) and Dave Diprose for the Blues Juke Joint on Sunday night, $10 at the door, children free. Go to www.maldonfolkfestival.com for the full program and ticket prices
