The five-day race will feature Australia's top cyclists and some world renowned riders competing.
Council’s manager of major events, Terry Karamaloudis, said the historic tour, which will roll in and out of Bendigo on February 5-6, would bring a wide range of benefits to the region.
"The tour helps to position our city as a cycling mecca," Karamaloudis said on Wednesday.
"For cycling officials to have the confidence to have tour stages finish and start in Bendigo is a remarkable achievement.
"The sporting spotlight will again be on the City of Greater Bendigo."

The tour will kick off when riders compete in the individual time trial beginning in Federation Square on February 4.
It will then move into central Victoria, with the 152km stage one journey beginning at Mount Macedon, passing Hanging Rock and finishing on the streets of Bendigo on February 5.
Stage two on February 6 is 120km and will see cyclists start in Bendigo and finish in Nagambie.
The third stage is set near the Nagambie Lakes Wineries and the 125km final stage will return to Arthurs Seat.
Karamaloudis said Bendigo would witness some of the best cyclists in action in our own backyard.
Australian team ORICA-Green Edge has already confirmed it will take part in the tour, with Simon Gerrans and this year's winner Simon Clarke gearing up for the event.
The tour will be raced between February 4 and 8.
