One week out from the annual show, food technology students at Bendigo South East College have been busy cooking up a storm and practicing their baking skills in preparation for their show entries.
Teacher Donna Lierse said the school was getting more involved with the show every year, with more than 50 entries from BSE across the arts, textiles and food in this year's show.
"On the Wednesday before the show we'll have a big food tech workshop where the students will prepare their entries, before taking them into the showgrounds on the Thursday morning," she said.
"It's exciting for the students, but also a great way for the school to be involved with the wider Bendigo community."
Bendigo Agricultural Show Society secretary Rod Bowles said everything was shaping up in terms of preparations for the show, which runs from 9am to 9pm next Friday and Saturday at the showgrounds.
"There's an expectation it will be on every year, and all is looking fairly good," he said.
"It has changed a bit over the years... families now look for the entertainment factor."
Mr Bowles said in his 14 years as show society secretary, this year had one of the most exciting line ups he had seen.
"We've never had monster trucks before, it's something the kids will really enjoy," he said.
"The Brophy circus is back after a few years of rest."
Now in its 155th year, the show had adapted to cater for all ages and persuasions, Mr Bowles said.
He said typical show attendance could vary from about 15,000 to 17,000 but it was "all weather dependent".
He said the weekend's entertainment included a "wheel of steel", a wood-chopping competition including a demonstration from Australian wood-chopping champion Lawrence O'Toole, a ute show on the Saturday, animal shows and, the big finale, fireworks on the Saturday night.
He said the $35 ticket for a family was "pretty good value for money in this economy".
"We've kept ticket prices at same amount for the past few years," she said.
"The only thing that costs extra are the showbags and rides."
