The art room was destroyed by fire more than three years ago.
The provision of a permanent art room is within the school's building entitlement schedule but the department of education is yet to provide a time frame as to when the rebuilding works will start.
The petition was presented to Member for Macedon Joanne Duncan by school council president Chris Corbell, students and parents last week.
Mr Corbell said hundreds of people from across the Gisborne community had signed the petition.
"This petition sends a very clear message to the education department and to all candidates standing in the upcoming state election that New Gisborne Primary School and the greater Gisborne community want to see this art room rebuilt as a priority,” Mr Corbell said.
Petitions were displayed at the school and businesses.
