The local RSL, Lions, Rotary or hall committee can set out a table of pies, pasties, cakes and sandwiches fit for a queen, and Elmore groups are no exception.
For 37 years, Elmore Swimming Pool member Lesley Edmondston has helped to cater the field days.
While the method might have changed, she says people could never go past a warm pie, pastie or sausage roll.
"We didn't have the modern centre like we have now," Mrs Edmondston said.
"We used to make the tea using teabags in half a dozen teapots. There were squeezy bottles everywhere as well, which would be a no-no with OHS these days."
The Elmore Field Days are an important source of funding for 20 local groups, who divide the final takings from their catering among themselves.
Each group operates a different part of the catering, from setting up one of the 12 food stalls throughout the events centre, to manning the sinks and ovens in the food court.
Mrs Edmondston said the contribution from service organisations in Elmore, Rochester, Goornong and Lockington had increased as the field days continued to grow.
"There used to be about three volunteers per organisation, but now we each provide seven or eight people," she said.
"It's obviously massive for the local communities now."
Having kept the ovens well-stocked with pies, pasties and sausage rolls, Mrs Edmonston would join other volunteers making a variety of rolls throughout Tuesday.
