Kidnapped by Time will be launched on Sunday, October 5, at Dunstans Flat near Golden Point.
The small community, which is divided by teh Calder Freeway, lies between Harcourt and Elphinstone.
Contributor Peter McCarthy said the project bought quite a few people together.
"Since the subdivision there are a lot more new people but people that have been here for 20 or 30 years are still considered new," he said.
"We started off with the freeway coming through and splitting Faraday down the middle.
"We were looking for a venue to have events but there was no public building so we became managers for part of the public land in Faraday Common."
Mr McCarthy said the community also started a newsletter and were awarded a $2000 grant from the Mount Alexander Shire to research the area's history.
"You might think that Faraday is this little country town with not much history but there were three events that got worldwide attention," Mr McCarthy said.
"Major Mitchell made a path through the hills to get back to Sydney and tell people about the wonderful country down here.
"There was the discovery of gold in Mount Alexander goldfields at Golden Point.
"And there was the (Faraday School) kidnappings (in 1972), which was a bit more recent."
Mr McCarthy said as well as the well-known stories, there were a number of smaller stories about local families that were interesting and quirky.
Seven people interviewed residents and helped write the book while Bendigo Advertiser photographer and Faraday resident Brendan McCarthy took photos.
Mr McCarthy's wife, Anthea Matley, helped publish the book while studying a publishing course in Bendigo.
"As an exercise in bringing the community together, it has worked really well," Mr MCarthy said.
"The launch will be in a marquee under the gum trees in Dunstans Flat."
Kidnapped by Time will be launched on at 12.30pm on Sunday, October 5, at Dunstans Flat on Golden Point Road near Golden Point and Expedition Pass Reservoir.
