PASSES kept fizzing from end to end in Tuesday’s play at the Futsal Australia Schools Championships in Bendigo.
With finals places and national selection just some of the rewards the intensity across all age groups was at a high level.
It’s state against state, and country against city in many of the five-a-side indoor soccer matches being played at Bendigo Stadium in West Bendigo or at Flora Hill Stadium in Ellis Street.
At Flora Hill Stadium the girls teams impressed with their attacking flair and defensive efforts.
Fierce rivals in any sporting code, New South Wales and Queensland played out some great battles on the futsal courts.
In the 14-girls competition, Queensland Country Coast won a hard-fought battle with NSW City, 2-1.
Later in the day, NSW City set up but did not capitalise on attacking moves against Queensland City White.
An own goal put Queensland in front, one-nil, at the half-time break.
Results from the last of Tuesday’s matches were not available.
The all-Queensland match in the 14-girls competition ended in a 6-4 win for City Silver and Country.
NSW City North teamed superbly to score a 5-0 victory in the 14-girls clahs with Queensland City Maroon.
The Blues later shone in a 10-goal win against Queensland Country East Coast.
Many goals were struck in the 12-13 girls matches on day two of the titles.
Queensland City dominated in a 9-0 win against Victoria.
Matches in the 15-boys competition at Flora Hill were keenly contested.
Queensland City scored a 6-3 win against Victoria Metro, and Queensland Country beat Victoria Metro by three goals.
Tasmania is competing in the under-15 boys division.
Matches for the under-15, 16 and 19 girls, and the 16 and 19 boys are being played at Wendouree near Ballarat.
Wednesday’s play at Flora Hill starts at 10am. First matches at Bendigo Stadium kick off at 9am.
