Mark's diagnosis was a shock to the school community, and Brooke Cameron - an old friend of Mark's whose daughter was in Mark's class - is hosting a fundraiser for him October.
Ms Cameron said Mark was greatly admired by teachers and parents alike.
"The fact is, he's given so much to the kids and I just felt I wanted to do something for him and his family," she said. The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, October 26 at The Hotel Shamrock, and will include music, canapes and door prizes.
People can buy tickets by googling "fundraiser for Mark Winter" and clicking on the first tab. If business would like to donate raffle prizes, they can contact Brooke Cameron on 0409-007-146.
