BENDIGO State Emergency Service volunteers were called out to eight homes during heavy rain last night.
Volunteer Natalie Stanway said the callouts were all to homes in suburban Bendigo with the common theme of water damage.
Ms Stanway said water came through peoples' roofs and windows.
"One thing that seemed to be the case in a couple of instances is that roof gutters had not been cleaned before the rain had come," Ms Stanway said.
"If their gutters are full, they will get water banking up and causing damage."
Ms Stanway said cleaning gutters before a storm could avoid water damage.
She said Thursday's weather looked clear and would give the SES a chance to clean up.
"With the rain we had last night there's a very good chance that we’ll start to see a few trees come down around the region - often the rain makes them unstable," Ms Stanway said.
She warned residents not to park their cars under trees.
"Typically after a heavy storm we start to see trees down in a 24-hour period after that.
"Particularly gum trees can become a little tenuous."
She said the Bendigo SES crew were attending a tree down near Eppalock this morning.
