Liberal vandidate for Bendigo East, Greg Bickley, welcomed the funding.
“This Napthine Government program gives these schools the opportunity to minimise waste, save energy and water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Mr Bickley said.
“Schools can choose to install sustainable items such as solar panels, water tanks, veggie patches, energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances, and door and window draught seals."
Education Minister Martin Dixon said the Victorian Coalition Government had committed $8.3 million to build on the existing ResourceSmart schools framework.
“Educating our children about sustainable practices helps them develop the knowledge and skills to contribute to a more sustainable Victoria,” Mr Dixon said.
“The grant can also be used for teacher professional development and the purchase of teaching and learning resources related to energy efficiency.
“The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to encouraging schools in Central Victoria to do their bit to create a more sustainable, cleaner and safer Victoria."
