MONTHS of planning and fundraising, with a few hurdles along the way, will come to fruition on Sunday as a group of Bendigonians attempt to break the world record for the largest boxing lesson.
More than 400 people have registered for the event, but there remains space - and boxing gloves - to cater for many more.
The group needs to hit the 498 mark to beat the world record, set on Bondi earlier this year.
They have the gloves, now all they need are fists to fill them.
Each participant receives a set of boxing gloves and a t-shirt to commemorate the occasion, with the fundraiser going towards the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
Participant Lisa Nicolson said the lesson would be "super easy" and only take half an hour.
"It's a lesson, not a session, it won't be a hard work out," she said.
"We'll go through the stances and the names of the punches, through leads, rear, upper cut and hook.
"It'll be over quick, and there will be a lunch afterwards as well."
Following the event, five residents will complete a 200 kilometre bike ride to Mornington to raise funds for the Peter MacCallum Centre.
Last month organisers announced two-time world super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine would lead the boxing lesson, but he later withdrew from the event.
Ms Nicolson said they remained confident of a highly successful event.
"Unfortunately Anthony Mundine was not able to attend, and we apologise to those who were excited to see and to meet him," she said.
"The fundraiser was and always will be about the Ride to Conquer Cancer and to bring people together for fun and fitness."
The boxing lesson will begin at 11.30am on Sunday, September 21 at Bendigo Stadium. Participants are encouraged to get there earlier to register.
Cost is $45 per person, or $25 each in a group of 10.
