Girton Grammar School hosted their annual junior school Grandparents and Special Friends Day.
Four-hundred students filled the John E Higgs Hall with artworks created so far this year.
More than 800 pieces of artwork came to life with the help of new technology, allowing grandparents an insight into the children's minds.
Each child's painting was accompanied by a headshot of that child.
An app on the students iPad then recognised the photo and then began a video of the student explaining their artwork.
Year 5 student Jessica Hulme said she liked being creative with art.
"It is special and it makes me really happy when I am around art," she said
"It's really fun to have your grandparents and special friends to show them around and show them what you do in class."
Year 5 student Erin Whyte said she liked art because it allowed shy people to show their emotions.
"I think art can make everyone really happy," she said.
"It's a great experience to show your grandparents around the school.
"I like showing them what I do every day of the week.
"They really enjoy coming."
Year 3 student Deakin Bartolo said he liked showing his grandparents his artworks.
"I think art is really fun because you can use your favourite colours to do anything," he said.
Girton Grammar School's Junior School head Don Thompson said there were more than 200 grandparents in attendance.
He said many interstate grandparents made their travel plans around the special day.
"The students have had a great time filming the story descriptions," he said.
"It's an engaging way to give families and friends true insight into their children's work.
"It's a very hi-tech art exhibition, possibly the first of its kind for an Australian school.
"The exhibition was the centerpiece for a great day of musical performances, open classrooms, student tours and lunch."
