Runner-up in the event the previous two years, Griffin broke through for the biggest win in this year's campaign in the United States.
Griffin said he had the most consistent day of all in the three legs - swim, cycle and run - against a field that included defending champion Andy Potts and Germany's Andreas Drietz.
Griffin's career includes being a world duathlon champion and a winner of the Bendigo Advertiser Sports Star of the Year award.
Now in its 50th year, Sports Star is proudly backed by Prime 7 and Bendigo Bank.
