Sold $3.99 million Agent Nick Johnstone Asking price low to mid $3 million
Six bidders propelled the sale price of the glamorous five-bedroom beachside family home almost $500,000 above the reserve. A buyers advocate started the auction for the property, which was built seven years ago and has tropical gardens and self-contained pool house, with a bid of $3.3 million; $200,000 shy of the reserve. Soon, more hands were in the air as another buyers advocate, David McRae, and four more bidders jumped in. The vendors were the real winners at the auction of this tri-level, four-bedroom home, walking away with almost $300,000 more than their reserve. A healthy crowd soaked up some sunshine at the edge of Burnley Park as they watched auctioneer Elliot Gill kick off proceedings. The auction heated up quickly as a lady’s opening offer of $1.95 million was immediately countered by a $2 million bid from a man. After another seven swift bids, the property was declared on the market at $2,315,000. The auction of this three-bedroom home saw two would-be buyers emerge from the crowd of 30: one couple and a young man with his parents. The couple upped auctioneer Jamil Allouche’s vendor bid of $550,000 by $10,000, then the man, supported by his folks, joined in. A Ray White agent flitted between the two parties, successfully eliciting rises until the man’s father told him his son was out. Sold $1.52 million Agent Nelson Alexander Asking price $1.4 million- $1.5 million
Students holding a garage sale in the median strip up the road seemed to do better than auctioneer Tom Roberts at this auction, with only one offer emerging from the crowd of 60. Mr Roberts opened with a vendor bid of $1.4 million for the renovated three-bedroom terrace, and eventually received a $20,000 rise. He consulted with the vendors, but the crowd would not give him another cent on his return and the property was passed in. It sold to the lone bidder for $1.52 million after the auction. Jayne D'Arcy

When the price reached $1,715,000, the silver-haired man shook his head vigorously. Moments later the auctioneer, James Tostevin, was about to knock down the five-bedroom house to a cool-as-a-cucumber woman who’d come in late, but the man suddenly offered $5000 more. She returned fire with a $2500 rise, which was enough to settle the argument. The handsome clinker-brick has a large wrap-around family area, French doors and a smart first-floor extension. Sold Undisclosed Agent Fletchers Asking price $2.75 million-plus
Ninety onlookers saw the 102-year-old “Larnoo” tested on the market for the first time in 32 years, but the would-be buyers held their cards close to their chest. “You are located on the high side of the street with a north-facing backyard,” said auctioneer Tim Heavyside. He highlighted the 1235 square metres of land up for grabs in one of Canterbury’s best spots, but couldn’t get a genuine bid to better his $2.7 million vendor bid so the four-bedroom-plus-pool home was passed in.
