Kyrilee Bodin was one of those volunteers.
Originally from Bendigo but now living in Melbourne, Ms Bodin returned to her home city last weekend to give back to The Capital theatre, where she used to work as a technician.
"I'm now a stage manager in Melbourne and The Capital got me the job I have now," she said.
"It's great to come back and give back."
For three days, Ms Bodin acted as a presenter guide; directing guest speakers to the appropriate rooms and venues.
"I'm a bit of a run-around," she said.
"I show the writers where they need to be."
She said she had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"It's been great - it's surprising how varied all the speakers are," she said.
"The volunteers are all lovely, they really look after you and they're so friendly."
