Candidate for Bendigo East Greg Bickley has hit back at Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan, accusing her of "playing political games".
"Offensive comments and behaviour should never be tolerated in any form," he said.
"Unlike Jacinta Allan who is only interested in playing political games, I am focused on the issues that matter to the people of Bendigo.
"If Ms Allan had an shred of credibility she would demand that opposition leader Daniel Andrews come clean about Labor's scandalous involvement in the theft and destruction of a dictaphone owned by a Fairfax journalist."
EARLIER:
The Bendigo Liberal Party has been accused of being out of step with mainstream society after members of the Melbourne University Young Liberals Club were called in to support candidate Greg Bickley's campaign.
The accusation comes after a series of screenshots were leaked to Fairfax Media, which shows the Melbourne University Young Liberals Club posting racist, crude and misogynist comments on social media.
The posts attack feminist and alumni Germaine Greer, take aim at homosexuality, and repeatedly demean women.
A photo posted on Twitter on July 26 shows the group supporting Mr Bickley's campaign at Liberal House in Bendigo.
Mr Bickley is standing against sitting member Jacinta Allan for the seat of Bendigo East.
Ms Allan said the Bendigo Liberals had been "inviting this extreme club to come to Bendigo to assist Greg Bickley".
"We don't want their type in Bendigo, with their sexist and racist attitudes," she said.
"These anti-women, pro racist types have no place in politics.
"Mr Bickley needs to give an assurance he will have nothing further to do with them."
