The 1000-seat theatre will soon have a roof - the final of the major structural works on the $25.8 million former jail complex.
Northern Victoria MLC Damian Drum toured the site on Friday, from the jail entranceway to the vast, soon-to-be world-class theatre.
"When you step into the theatre, the sheer size makes you very excited about the project," he said.
City of Greater Bendigo director city futures Stan Liacos said key works were "very close to completion".
Winter rains had put construction back a few days, but the overall project remained on schedule.
A recent call for donations for seats saw $20,000 donated in the first week.
Bendigo Senior Secondary College principal Dale Pearce said the school looked forward to having the complex right on its doorstep.
"It's a win-win," he said.
"We would be wanting to tap into the range of world-class performers the theatre will attract.
"It will be great for the students."
