The Melbourne Cup will have a pit stop in central Victoria as part of its 2014 tour across the country.
The Bendigo Jockey Club has teamed up with the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch to present the Cup.
The Cup will make stops at schools and nursing homes as part of its visit to Bendigo before being displayed at the Bendigo RSL on September 1 at 7.30pm.
“We are delighted to be able to host the Melbourne Cup on Tour this year in Bendigo," BJC chief executive Ian Hart said.
"It is a fitting start to launch the Spring Racing Carnival action in Bendigo on the first day of Spring, in the lead up to the Bendigo Cup on the last Wednesday in October before the great race on the first Tuesday in November."
Hart said the jockey club and the RSL shared a rich history and he was delighted that the two organisations could come together to present the trophy for Australia's most famous horse racing event.
"Fittingly, the newly renovated Bendigo District RSL will be able to display the Melbourne Cup to its members and guests on this evening," he said.
Bendigo District RSL general manager Martin Beekes said it was an honour to have the Cup in the city.
"The race that stops a nation starts in Bendigo," he said.
The Melbourne Cup ambassadors that will also visit the city as part of the tour have yet to be announced.
The Bendigo Cup will be raced on October 29.
The Cup Carnival begins on November 1 with Victoria Derby Day with the Melbourne Cup raced on November 4.
