The family of murdered Bendigo baby Zayden Veal-Whitting is hoping to have a playground built in his memory.
Zayden was killed in his cot in the early hours of June 15, 2012. Burglar Harley Hicks was committing a series of burglaries when he entered Zayden's home and bludgeoned him to death.
Hicks was found guilty of Zayden's murder by a Supreme Court jury in April and later sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 32 years. He last month sought leave to appeal his sentence.
But Zayden's family wants the community to have a happy space that helps take away the sadness of the last two years.
The memorial playground, to be called Where Angels Play, will be a bright, happy space allowing the community to remember a happy little boy.
Zayden's aunty, Angie Whitting recently met with several City of Greater Bendigo councillors to discuss possible sites.
Terry Lofkin from the Newbridge Hotel has joined the efforts to make that happen and will host a family day from 11am until 11pm on August 23.
"I heard about what happened and my heart just went out to them,'' he said.
Five bands will perform and there will be face-painting, paintball, Harley Davidson rides, a sausage sizzle and spit roast.
A major auction will include a miniature Harley Davidson with 49cc engine and a hand-built railway set.
Members of the Tarnagulla Fire Brigade will donate their time to help on the day.
Anyone wanting to donate raffle or auction items, volunteer to perform or provide activities on the day, should phone Terry on 5438 7260 or email tlofkin@yahoo.com.au
