First Constable Travis Collier of Kerang said a woman, 24, and man, 20, were travelling to Swan Hill when their Honda Accord left the road about 10 kilometres south of Kerang at Tragowel about 10am on Monday.
Constable Collier said the car rolled down an embankment on the side of the road and sped through long grass before catapulting over a channel.
He said the car came to rest on its roof in a dead tree branch.
He said the vehicle's occupants were lucky to escape with non-life threatening injuries.
"It would have been like a scene from a movie," he said.
"(The occupants) of the vehicle are very lucky to escape almost unscathed.
"I don't know what would have happened if they had landed in the channel or a tree branch had gone through one of the car's windows.
"It would have been very different."
It would have been like a scene from a movie.

The female driver was taken to Kerang Hospital in an ambulance but was later transferred to Swan Hill Hospital.
The male passenger was treated for shock at the scene.
Constable Collier said police would investigate speed, fatigue and distractions as possible causes of the crash.
He said police had attended a number of single vehicle collisions in the area over the past 12 months and Monday's incident was a timely reminder for drivers to take caution on the roads.
"We are urging drivers on long trips to take care especially when driving on country roads," he said.
"Motorists should take regular breaks, drive to the speed limit and refrain from being distracted."
