Dyson is the second son of Bendigo Braves legend Ricky Daniels. 

The 11-year-old has been selected to represent Victoria in the 12-years-and-under School Sport basketball team. 

Dyson and his Victorian team-mates will take on the best young basketballers from across the country. 

Dyson’s mother Brikitta said her son was excited to have made the squad. 

“He competes in several tournaments but this is different, it is a national level competition,” she said. 

“It will be a great experience for him.

“He is also a bottom age selection, which means he can try-out for the team again next year.”

Brikitta said Dyson, a Camp Hill Primary School student, has been involved in basketball since he was just four-years-old. 

“He got it from his dad,” she said. 

“We were always going to games and watching basketball, he always had a ball in his hands.”

Dyson, who is also a highly-rated junior footballer with Golden Square, had to survive three testing training sessions to make the Victorian basketball squad. 

“There was a Bendigo trial and then another one in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and then finally there was a two-day camp in Melbourne,” Brikitta said. 

“There were 60 people trying out and only 10 spots available, so it is a great achievement.”

The School Sport Australia Basketball Championships will be held in Townsville in Queensland between August 16 and 23.
