DURING Japanese PM Shinzo Abe's visit to Australia. he provided to Tony Abbott "the strongest hint yet" that Japan would resume its so-called "scientific" whaling in the Southern Ocean (whale sanctuary) this year in defiance of the International Court of Justice's ruling only three months ago.

How morally bankrupt and utterly without honour must the Japanese PM be to even consider continuing to break international law on two fronts: the 1986 IWC moratorium on commercial whaling and the recent judgement by the ICJ!
The world knows that the Japanese whaling programs are not about scientific research, but are all about putting whale meat on tables in Japanese restaurants.
In light of the ICJ's recent findings, all governments that are participants in the establishment and preservation of the Southern Ocean sanctuary must see that they are empowered to enforce international law and prosecute any whaling vessels (of any nation) that enter the sanctuary.
I just wonder if Australia and its partner governments have the political will to do so, or does the almighty dollar/yen speak more loudly to them than their collective consciences?
