The Englishman won the fourth-ranking title of his career, defeating snooker's world number one, Neil Robertson in-front of a packed crowd at the Bendigo Stadium on Sunday night.
Trump won the best of 17 contest, 9 to 5.
Trump reeled off five frames in a row to claim an unassailable lead and the major share of the $500,000 prize pool.
"None of us were playing our best snooker and even at 8-3, I knew he was more than capable of winning six frames in a row and not give me a chance, so I had to take my chances and in the end I did," Trump said.
"I played some good snooker."
Robertson mounted a spirited fight-back in the second session of the final, but it wasn't enough.
The Australian admitted Trump played better in the final.
"It was a strange final, we could both play a lot better than that," Robertson said.
"Both of us were making it to 40 or 50 and running out of position and I couldn’t capitalise on those sorts of mistakes, he probably did that a bit better than me."
Robertson said there was no excuses for his performance.
"Whenever a sports person enters an arena or crosses the white line you are committing yourself you are declaring yourself 100 percent fit and he was too good for me," he said.
