The case against Sonny Middleton was dismissed in Bendigo Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Middleton had pleaded not guilty to one count of unlawful assault on June 18.
The complainant was a woman from Germany who had been living in Australia for 20 months and was working for Red Energy as a door-to-door saleswoman at the time of the alleged incident.
She appeared via video-link but the hearing was disrupted for several hours after the court's television stopped working.
Technical support failed to fix the problem as the court room filled with a burning smell believed to have been caused by a blown fuse.
Court staff were unable to find another available courtroom with video-link facilities and the matter was adjourned.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Franz Holzer dismissed the charge against Middleton.
Mr Holzer also awarded $1860 in court costs against the prosecution.
