Competitors from up to 160 primary and secondary schools battled it out to claim the inaugural junior and senior winners’ trophies.
The event was created by Gareth Mills, member of the Bendigo Chess Club and stalwart behind the newly established Girton Grammar Senior School Chess Club.
Bendigo Chess Club volunteers were at hand to mentor students on the day.
