Students set for Vanuatu trip

A GROUP of Victory Christian College students will lend a helping hand to children in Vanuatu this month.

About 26 students will travel to the island as part of a missionary trip to a school in the village of Blacksands near the island capital Port Villa.

The group will take books, stationary, a CD player and calico bags to give to the children with them when they leave on Thursday for the week-long trip.

Year 7 student Taylor Morrison said she looked forward to spending time with the children at the school.

"We will be teaching them songs, craft and sports, and joining in their classes to teach them reading," she said.

"Personally I think it will be a life-changing experience to see how they live and how their lives are different.

"I think I will come back a lot more grateful for the things I have."

Teacher Karen Otten said the college was affiliated with the History Makers Church.

She said the church had established a strong connection with the community of Port Villa.

"It will be great for the students to gain an insight into how other people overseas live," she said.

"I am sure it will have some kind of impact of them as young people."
