THE Melbourne Vixens gave veteran shooter Catherine Cox the perfect final game, winning the ANZ Championship by 11 goals against the Queensland Firebirds.

Cox, who came on in the final quarter, couldn't contain her emotions in the final minutes of the game as her glittering career was coming to an end.

The Vixens led by just three goals at the final break but went on to score a53 to 42 goal victory in front of a packed home crowd at Hisense Arena on Sunday afternoon.

A five-goal burst by the Vixens in the final quarter couldn't be matched by the Firebirds.

Defenders Geva Mentor, Bianca Chatfield and Kate Moloney worked well to cause crucial turnovers in the last 15 minutes of play.

Echuca's Caitlyn Strachan was a part of the Melbourne Vixens side to win the Trans-Tasman championship.

Despite the mid-court player not making it on the court in the grand final she played in several matches throughout the season.
