Women's Affairs Minister Heidi Victoria said the move was positive.
“I’m very pleased to announce the Coalition Government is partnering with the VLGA to establish this innovative program," she said.
“We’ve worked previously with the VLGA to increase the number of women serving on local councils through their three-year Think Women for Local Government.
“That program saw the total number of women on all local councils increase – from 29 to 34 per cent of all council seats in the 2012 local government elections – but more can be done."
Thinking Ahead aims to get more women interested in local politics through workshops and events, online and hardcopy resources, promotions in the media and targeted programs for regional women.
