Here, Zayden’s father James Whitting tells of his pain in a victim impact statement read in the Supreme Court.
MY name is James Whitting. I am very proud to say I am the father of Zayden Veal-Whitting. This statement has by far been the most difficult and painful that myself and my family have ever had to find the strength to endure. The tragic and needless loss of my son Zayden devastated us all and still does to this very day. I don't even know where to begin to express the pain I hold in my heart.
I can't even walk in the street anymore without thinking what the general public are capable of. I used to work, I worked a lot of jobs in my past, without stressing or panicking, but now I have four jobs since the incident but I can't hold a job anymore without getting stressed and panicking.
The feeling of losing my son in this brutal way, not many families have endured this. Walking down an aisle carrying your son to his coffin should not have been. That was the most destroying time of my life. No one should have to do that.
