Cr Lyons has also been nominated to be one of four councillors to sit on the Loddon Mallee Regional Waste and Resource Recovery Board.
The forum and board have been established under the Environment Protection Act to help councils in the region develop and deliver effective, efficient and sustainable waste and resource recovery planning and management.
They replace the former waste management groups that covered the Calder region, central Murray region and Mildura region and incorporate the City of Greater Bendigo, Buloke Shire, Gannawarra Shire, Loddon Shire, Macedon Ranges Shire, Mildura Rural City, Mount Alexander Shire, Swan Hill Rural City and Wakool Shire.
Cr Lyons said waste management was of vital importance to the region.
“I am keen to work with others to develop a regional approach to waste management so we can deliver better and smarter ways to deal with the huge amount of waste that we as a community generate,” he said.
